In 1965, Ben Lyon, with the help of his engineer brother Graham, started manufacturing ladders for cave crawling. The name 'Lyon Ladders' was registered in 1973. That same year Ben, along with Mike Meredith, took a team of cave climbers to France and called in Fernand Petzl's 3-man workshop. Mike started importing into the UK and left Ben's business in 1974, making Lyon the first overseas Petzl distributor. The next step was to change the name to Lyon Equipment.
