Edelweiss™

When the first rope, the ancestor of today's Edelweiss rope, was produced in Austria, mountaineering was barely a sport. It was 1790 and Mont Blanc had just been climbed for the first time. The need for this brand new alpine culture was met by Edelweiss 1935 when their first mountain rope was made. This was just the beginning of the pioneering development of climbing equipment. Edelweiss' history includes major innovations that supported the development of mountaineering, modern sport climbing and professional climbing. The Béal family, creators of the brand Beal, acquired Edelweiss in 1999 and runs the two companies side by side, manufacturing in the same factories.
