Petzl FREINO Z TRIACT-LOCK – carabiner with additional braking function
The Petzl FREINO Z is an aluminium locking carabiner specially designed for use with Petzl’s self-braking descenders. The carabiner features an integrated braking mechanism that allows you to increase friction and gain better control whilst abseiling.
Extra friction when needed
The integrated braking mechanism makes it easy to apply extra friction during descent. The rope can be fed into or removed from the braking unit with one hand without needing to open the main gate of the carabiner. This makes the FREINO Z particularly useful in situations where the load varies or where additional braking force is required, such as during a two-person rescue.
The brake component is designed for the rope and must not be used as an attachment point.
Automatic TRIACT-LOCK locking mechanism
The FREINO Z is fitted with Petzl’s automatic TRIACT-LOCK system. Opening the carabiner requires three separate movements, ensuring a secure lock whilst allowing the carabiner to be handled efficiently.
The keylock design reduces the risk of the carabiner’s nose becoming caught in a rope, harness or other equipment during handling.
Designed for Petzl’s abseil devices
FREINO Z is compatible with Petzl I’D S, I’D L, I’D EVAC and RIG. The carabiner’s design also makes it possible to keep the descender attached whilst moving it from an equipment loop to the harness’s attachment point or an anchor. This feature applies to the I’D S, I’D L and I’D EVAC from 2019, as well as the RIG from 2018.
