Petzl ASAP – portable fall arrest system for rope access work
The Petzl ASAP is a mobile fall arrest device for use on ropes during rope access work and other work at height. During normal movement, the device automatically follows the user up and down the rope without the need for manual operation.
In the event of a fall or an uncontrolled descent, the locking mechanism is activated and the ASAP blocks the rope to stop the fall. The device is designed to lock even if the user grabs hold of it whilst falling.
The ASAP can be used on vertical, horizontal and angled ropes, making it suitable for a range of types of work at height. It is fitted directly onto the rope, and the safety latches help to keep the device closed during use.
Unlike Petzl ASAP LOCK has ASAP no function to lock the device in a specific position on the lanyard. ASAP is therefore a good option when, above all, you need a mobile fall arrest device that moves freely with the user along the safety lanyard.
Used in conjunction with an energy absorber
The Petzl ASAP is used in conjunction with a compatible ASAP’SORBER energy absorber, positioned between the fall arrest device and the user’s harness. The energy absorber helps to limit the force transmitted to the user in the event of a fall, whilst also providing a greater working distance between the harness and the rope.
For use by a person weighing up to 140 kg, it can ASAP’SORBER 20 or 40 be used. In rescue situations involving two people and a total load of up to 250 kg, the following is used ASAP’SORBER AXESS.
The combination of ropes, energy absorbers and other components to be used depends on the system’s intended use and the certification required. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use for the complete fall protection system.
