Petzl Am’D – asymmetrical carabiner for attaching equipment
The Petzl Am’D is a lightweight, D-shaped aluminium carabiner designed for attaching equipment when working at height. Its asymmetrical D-shape makes it particularly suitable for use with, for example, descenders and positioning lanyards.
The inside of the carabiner has a smooth design that facilitates rotation and reduces the risk of equipment getting caught. The keylock system means that the gate does not have a traditional hook that could snag on ropes, harnesses or other equipment when clipping in or out.
Am’D has an H-shaped profile which offers a good weight-to-strength ratio whilst also helping to protect the carabiner’s markings from wear and tear. The carabiner can also be used in conjunction with Petzl CAPTIV, which helps to keep the carbine in the correct position and loaded along its main axis.
Which locking system should I choose?
SCREW-LOCK It features a manual screw lock and is ideal when the carabiner does not need to be opened and closed frequently. A red indicator becomes visible when the locking sleeve is not locked, making it easier to check the lock visually.
TWIST-LOCK It features an automatic locking mechanism and is opened by turning the locking sleeve before the gate is opened. This allows for quick handling and is ideal when the carabiner needs to be clipped in and out frequently.
TRIACT-LOCK (Trilock) It features an automatic locking mechanism and requires three steps to open: the locking sleeve is pushed upwards, turned, and only then can the gate be opened. This provides an extra measure of protection against accidental opening and is suitable when a higher level of security is required.
