Petzl BASIC – compact rope clamp for ascending and rope access systems
The Petzl BASIC is a compact rope clamp designed for ascending fixed ropes and for use as part of various hoisting systems. Its light weight and compact design make it easy to carry and integrate with other equipment.
The rope clamp slides along the rope in one direction and grips the rope when loaded in the opposite direction. The toothed cam is fitted with a self-cleaning opening which helps to maintain its function even when the rope is dirty or icy.
BASIC has a large lower attachment point through which two carabiners can be clipped. The upper attachment point can be used, amongst other things, to guide the rope and helps to keep the rope clamp in the correct position whilst ascending.
Its compact design makes the BASIC suitable both as a personal rope clamp for moving along ropes and as a component in, for example, lift and rescue systems.
The Petzl BASIC is designed for kernmantle ropes with a diameter of 8–11 mm. The choice of rope and other components depends on the complete system and the intended use. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the equipment.
